Weekend Buzz | Join People Helping People for Their Grand Re-Opening

Our food pantry has found a new (and much larger) home

Hello!

I hope you had a great week and are looking forward to just the kind of weekend you love – whether it’s action-packed or slow and peaceful.

Before I get started, one more plug for Newsies, Jr., which has its last show today at 2:00! You can get tickets here. Be there, or be square.

Today I have a super exciting community announcement for you: People Helping People is settled in its new location and are ready to open their doors to the community!

In case you’re not sure what People Helping People is, you should definitely listen to my interview with Julie Lewis, the Pantry Director over there. In short, they are our local food pantry and they help hundreds of individuals and families each week, ensuring folks who need it get the food security and basic needs they require. They are just one of many organizations in Burlington that work to help folks in need. Here’s a list I compiled, but I’m sure there are more organizations I’m not thinking of. So please, if you’ve got one to add, let me know!

Without further ado, a message from Jane McIninch,

Come celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of the People Helping People Food Pantry

Even before the pandemic, the People Helping People Food Pantry struggled to fit into our former St. Marks Rd location, and efforts to strategize about future plans to grow the organization and move the pantry to a new location were started.

The urgency became apparent with the dramatic increase in need for assistance experienced during the pandemic, and the Board of Directors was able to complete a strategic plan for the organization.  A major goal included moving the pantry to a new larger facility to better meet the needs in the community.  We are excited to have completed the move and would like to invite the community to come check out our new home.

Please help us to celebrate the Grand Re-Opening of the PHP Food Pantry with a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Open House on 21 Murray Avenue, Burlington on Wednesday August 10th from 5-7.  All are welcome to come see our new facility.

So – come out and see what PHP has been up to. Maybe you can find a way to volunteer if you’re so inclined, or to get help if you need it, or both!

That’s all for me today. Enjoy the weekend!
