Daily Buzz | Get Your Nomination Papers Today for April's Local Election

Hello, Burlington!

The energy in the crowd was electric at last night’s varsity boys’ basketball game against the Arlington Spy Ponders. Team Captain, Cedric Rodriguez, was triple covered for a good part of the first half, scoring only two points. But early in the second half, he got a clear shot and took it, going above and beyond to surpass 1000 career points with a three-pointer just a few minutes into the third quarter. The Red Devils offense opened up a bit after this, but the game stayed close and Burlington won by a single point after a block by Rodriguez.

Watch the magical moment on Facebook, courtesy of BCAT. The beautiful 1001-point play begins at about 42:00.

Get Your Nomination Papers Today for April's Local Election

It’s January, and you know what that means! It’s time for local election coverage. Those of you who joined us outside of an election season might not know that the Buzz was created out of a need for greater understanding of, and involvement in, local government—and it’s only logical to seize the opportunity presented by a local election to help readers learn about all the different aspects of how our town is run. We’ll be providing stories that support your understanding as the season goes on, but for today, all you need to know is this:

Nomination papers are now available at the Town Clerk’s Office. Candidates interested in running for Town Meeting or a town-wide office must obtain nomination papers and collect signatures (10 from your precinct for Town Meeting and 50 from Burlington residents for town-wide offices) in order to have your name listed on the ballot.

You can pick up papers during Town Hall business hours from today through February 14, and you must return them by February 16. We’ll give you a lot of reminders about that! Below is a list of which offices are up for election; you’ll learn more about these offices throughout the months of January and February. You can also always check out our Local Government section if you’re one of those overachievers who likes to learn about things on your own. We have profiles of most Boards and Commissions there and will be adding and updating information throughout the season.
