Burlington’s boys’ cross country team stayed undefeated in the Middlesex League Freedom Division on Tuesday, edging Wilmington 28-29 in a thriller; Roy Kanyike helped out with the win, while Govathoti's 11th place finish secured the victory for the Red Devils. The boys' new overall record is 2-1
Despite 1st and 3rd place finishes by Mariska Kilroy and Shaelyn Fitzgerald, the girls' cross country team fell to the Wildcats 24-34. Girls now sit at 0-3 overall on the season.
On the golf course, the Red Devils dropped a close 37.5-34.5 decision to a talented Wilmington squad, despite four wins, two ties, and four players shooting under 40. The “Futures” match vs Billerica is set for today.
Boys’ soccer fell 1-0 to Belmont, showing grit with just 11 men and nearly equalizing late with a shot that rattled the bar.
In volleyball action against Concord-Carlisle, the freshmen fell 0-2 (Record: 2-9), JV earned a 2-0 win (Record: 8-3), and varsity came up just short 2-3 (Record: 9-2) in a five-set battle (24-26, 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 15-17). Player of the Match honors went to Sia Ganapathy.
Girls’ soccer had a tough outing versus Belmont, with varsity falling 8-2 and JV losing 2-1.
Wednesday Schedule
It’s Yom Kippur, and there are no games scheduled today or tomorrow. The soccer, volleyball, field hockey, and football teams will be back on the field & court on Friday.
