Burlington Buzz, Town of Burlington Partner for Candidate Webinar

Burlington Buzz and the Town of Burlington recently hosted an innovative joint candidate webinar to prepare prospective candidates for election season.

Buzz founder, Nicci Kadilak, hosted Town Clerk, Amy Warfield in virtual conversation as they discussed the requirements and important deadlines for running for local office in Burlington's April 5, 2025, election. Topics of conversation included the schedule of important events such as taking out and returning nomination papers, as well as logistics such as how many signatures a candidate needs to run for office and the essential questions for candidates to consider when assembling a campaign team.

The election may be four months away, but participants were urged to begin planning their campaign now, in light of a data analysis by community member and data whiz, Larry Warfield, that shows deficiencies with the traditional campaigning timeline in light of modern voting practices.

Early voting begins about three weeks before Election Day, and last year 2/3 of all votes in the town election were cast via early in-person or mail-in voting. This information, overlaid with the timeline of campaign activities and key election-related events by media and other organizations, shows that much outreach and information sharing happens after votes have already been cast.

This candidate webinar is a part of an ongoing partnership between Burlington Buzz and the Town Clerk's office; the two also collaborate to hold a Civic Expo each year, a free event that helps residents learn more about the departments, boards, and other town officials that impact their daily life. The next Civic Expo will be held in the Burlington High School Cafeteria on January 15, 2025.

If you didn't make the candidate webinar but are interested in learning about running for office, never fear. Here is a recording!
