Track Medals and Midweek Momentum Set the Stage for a Busy Burlington Sports Weekend

With medal finishes on the track and continued basketball consistency, Burlington athletics carried strong momentum through the front half of the week.

At Monday’s Middlesex League Championship Meet, girls’ track delivered some standout performances. Lyla Kuhn claimed first place in the high jump, clearing 5 feet and winning a jump-off to take the title. In the shot put, Cassidy Hanlon placed third with a throw of 34 feet, 9½ inches, while Avery Callahan added a sixth-place finish at 32 feet, 2 inches. On the track, Leila Gilligan earned fifth in the 600 meters with a time of 1:44.10, rounding out a strong showing against league competition.

Boys’ track added several strong results. The 4x400m relay of Rigolini, Nagappan, Katayomba, and Kanyike raced to a third-place finish, while the 4x200m relay of Burke, Conte, Hanafin, and Brooks placed seventh. Individually, Augustin claimed third in the shot put, Brooks finished second in the long jump with Sheehan close behind in eighth, Conte placed sixth in the 55m hurdles, and Kanyike added a sixth-place finish in the 1000m.

Both teams finished 8th in the ML-12.

Then on Tuesday, girls’ basketball continued its upward trend with a 54–37 win over Wakefield, improving to 8-7. The Lady Devils swarmed defensively all night and were led by a career-high 20 points from Ochi, along with strong contributions from Sicari and Gill.

The boys followed with a 71–57 victory over Wakefield, moving to 13-2 overall. Gray paced the offense with 23 points as Burlington pulled away with balance, energy, and control down the stretch.

With league meets and rivalry games now in the rearview, Burlington teams turn their attention to a full late-week schedule that spans gymnastics, basketball, wrestling, and hockey, setting up an active stretch as the season pushes forward.
