Track Flattens Undefeated Stoneham, Baseball and Softball Explode as Burlington Rebounds Thursday

Wednesday was a wash for Red Devils Sports in more ways than one. Rain canceled both tennis matches — boys' tennis vs. Central Catholic is rescheduled to May 19, and girls' tennis at Bedford is TBD — and what little did get played didn't go Burlington's way. Boys' lacrosse dropped a 7-12 decision at Belmont, falling to 8-5. Girls' lacrosse was handled at home by Belmont, losing 5-17 to slip to 6-9. The JV team took an L as well, falling 2-11 to Belmont.

Thursday was a different story.

The track teams delivered the day's headline result, with both teams defeating Stoneham. Boys rolled over the previously undefeated Spartans 104-32 to improve to 4-0. The boys have yet to lose a dual meet this spring. Girls scored an equally decisive win, defeating the Spartans 101-34 and moving to 3-0.

Burlington's bats came alive at Francis Wyman Field as baseball hammered Watertown 12-2, moving the Red Devils to 6-8. The softball team was equally dominant on the road, pouring it on at Watertown in a 17-3 victory to push their record to 3-10.

Boys' volleyball continued its recent momentum with a 3-0 sweep of Wakefield at home, improving to 7-7.

Boys' tennis edged Watertown 3-2 on the road to reach .500 at 7-7. Girls' tennis dropped a 1-4 match to Watertown at home. Cecelia Fraczek picked up Burlington's only point with a win at third singles.

Girls' track results from Thursday's meet at Stoneham were not available by press time.

No varsity games are scheduled this weekend. Burlington returns to action next week.
