Red Devils Shine in League Meets, Tournaments, and Hard-Fought Wins Across Winter Sports
Burlington swimming set records, wrestling crowned a tournament champ, and basketball and hockey delivered big wins in a standout winter stretch.
Burlington winter teams delivered a packed and impressive stretch highlighted by record-breaking swims, championship-level wrestling, and dominant performances on the court and ice.
At the Middlesex League Meet, the boys’ swim team finished seventh overall, led by a record-setting showing in the pool. The 200 Medley Relay of Woodbury, Alba, Ruiz, and Floyd broke its own BHS school record with a 1:51.13. Woodbury capped a stellar meet by shattering both his own school record and the Middlesex League record in the 100 Backstroke with a 55.09.
Wrestling battled through a demanding week. The Red Devils fell to Wakefield on Thursday, then rebounded with a strong showing at the Capitol City Classic in New Hampshire, finishing 16th out of 37 teams. Sophomore Shvartsman stole the spotlight, going 4-0 to win his first high school tournament and earning the title of Outstanding Wrestler. Burlington’s JV wrestlers also impressed at Methuen, producing multiple podium finishes and pushing the program’s depth forward.
On the court, boys’ basketball continued its surge. The Red Devils cruised past Melrose 74-32, then followed with a 74-47 win over Reading to clinch their third straight Middlesex League Freedom title and improve to 12-2 overall. The girls matched the momentum, earning wins over Melrose and Reading to even their record at 7-7.
Boys’ hockey brought home a strong 4-1 road win over Watertown/Wayland, highlighted by a two-goal night from Tulipano and contributions throughout the lineup.
With championships clinched, records broken, and confidence building, the Red Devils now turn their focus to another busy week as they roll toward tournament season.
