Burlington Basketball Secures Strong Wins, Wrestling Locks In Winning Season
BHS athletes rack up strong performances across sports as the season draws to a close.
Burlington winter teams delivered another packed stretch with championship races, milestone wins, and late-season momentum as the end of the regular season draws near.
Boys’ hockey continued its historic run, following up its Freedom title clincher with a 4–0 shutout at Wakefield on Saturday. Goals from Condon, Robitaille, Berardinelli, and Scalia powered the win, while Tirabassi anchored the clean sheet in net. The victory brought the team's record up to 13-2-1 and reinforced the Red Devils’ postseason trajectory as one of Division 2’s top teams.
The girls’ hockey squad returned to the ice Sunday with a 1-0 loss to Wakefield, while JV boys added depth with a 5–3 win over Lexington.
On the court, the boys’ basketball team stayed red-hot with a 71–40 win over Wilmington. M. Gray led the way with 30 points, 13 rebounds, and five steals, with Poehler (14), Ellis (10), and Borgansano (11 off the bench) fueling a balanced attack as Burlington improved to 14-2 on the season.
The girls matched the defensive intensity in a 45–25 win over Wilmington. Captain Ava Sicari poured in a career-high 21 points, while Ochi added nine points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks in a dominant two-way effort, moving the Lady Devils to 9-7.
The Red Devils wrestling team closed its regular season with a milestone achievement. After a tight loss to Watertown, Burlington split its final Saturday quad — defeating Newton North 70-10 before falling to Waltham 37-36. Multiple wrestlers posted multi-win days, helping the Red Devils finish 14-13-1 on the season and securing the program’s first winning season since 2021.
In gymnastics, the girls battled through a competitive tri-meet Friday, defeating Woburn 138-134 while narrowly falling to Reading 140-138, and the boys' swim team headed to Boston University for Sectionals over the weekend, where Shay Woodbury took home a medal for his 5th place finish in the 100 backstroke and the 200 medley relay team of Woodbury, Floyd, Alba, and Ruiz broke the BHS school record for the third time this year.
With hockey and basketball closing their last full regular-season week, many Burlington teams continue to build momentum at the right time as tournament season approaches.
