Boys’ Basketball Rolls Past Wakefield; Track Battles Melrose Indoors

Monday was a busy day for Burlington athletics, with strong performances on the court and competitive efforts on the track.

At The Track at New Balance, Burlington’s indoor track teams faced Melrose. The girls’ team fell 74–25, while the boys dropped their meet 57–43.

On the basketball court, the girls’ team came up just short in a 40–36 loss to Wakefield. A slow start proved difficult to overcome, but Ochi led the Lady Devils with 13 points, eight rebounds, and two blocks, helping keep the game within reach. Their new record is 2-1.

The boys’ team closed out the night with a dominant 68–42 win over Wakefield, showcasing a balanced offensive attack. Poehler led the way with 18 points, while M. Gray (16), J. Gray (11), and Shannon (11) all reached double figures. Strong defense added to the offensive performance, helping Burlington pull away as the Red Devils improved to 3–1 on the season.

After Tuesday’s contests, Burlington teams will have a short break before returning to action Saturday with wrestling, girls’ basketball, and boys’ hockey.
