Weekly Buzz | Welcome, Spring!
A podcast, an update, and a packed calendar
Just in time for spring, I had the opportunity this week to talk with Brendan Egan, Parks & Recreation Director, about the lesser-known aspects of his department’s responsibilities. The podcast will be out next Saturday, but paying members can listen early right here:
Also—you probably heard there was a brush and structure fire last Friday near Francis Wyman. Some rumors circulated that the fire was in or at the school, but that wasn’t the case. One home was badly damaged, but the owner was unharmed and the fire department quickly managed the situation. It seems the fire started as a brush fire and then spread to the house.
I noticed just that morning that there was a “Red Flag Warning” on my weather app. What that means is that low relative humidity and high winds increase the risk of fire.
Just a reminder to be vigilant with incendiaries, especially in dry and windy conditions!

Sports and Activities
The DevilBotz rose up through the ranks at the FIRST Robotics district qualifying tournament in Springfield this weekend, but ultimately their hard work wasn’t quite enough to qualify them for Worlds. Congratulations to the students and coaches on all your hard work and progress throughout the season!
Boys’ and girls’ track met with Melrose yesterday; boys dominated with a 104-32 victory, while girls took a close loss 69-66.
Our boys’ lacrosse team fell to Reading 11-6 and will be back on the field tomorrow.
In tennis on Friday, our girls took down Bedford 3-2 for their first win of the season, while boys lost in a close 3-2 match.
We’ve got a little of everything coming up this week, starting tomorrow with lacosse, baseball, softball, and tennis! Look forward to volleyball and track later in the week, as well.
That’s it for me. Have a lovely sunny Sunday, Burlington!
