Letter to the Editor: Condition of the High School is a Priority

To the Editor:

The Town Meeting members voted Yes and I will vote Yes.

I am a retired senior living in Burlington who does not have children or grandchildren attending any of the schools. However, I believe in supporting the future of Burlington as a vibrant and caring community. So do the communities of

  • Billerica, New high school 2019
  • Stoneham , New high school 2024
  • North Reading, New high school, 2015
  • Belmont, New high school, 2023

Lexington will be voting on their debt exclusion in December. MSBA over a decade ago decided that the best course of action was to help support new high schools rather than renovations that would eventually cost more than current new construction.

The BHS building committee spent a considerable amount of their time investigating alternatives and through that process chose one that modernized current spaces like the gym while creating classrooms that echo to the students that the town cares about their education. It is obvious that our neighboring towns recognize that the condition of their high schools is a priority to continue attracting families and improving residents' property values; so should Burlington.

Vote Yes to the Debt Exclusion.
