Daily Buzz | Nomination Papers Suggest Mixed News About April Ballot
Winter berries from Barbara Martinez.

Hello, Burlington, and Happy Monday!

Friday was the final day to return nomination papers for the April 1 election, and there is mixed news from this. I’m going to hold off on updating the official Buzz article until I hear from the Town Clerk’s office, but it appears as though there will be a contested race for both Recreation Commission and School Committee, along with Town Meeting Precincts 2, 5, and 7 3-year seats. However, it looks like we lack enough candidates to fill upen seats in some other precincts. You can see the details here, and I’ll update the official article when I hear confirmation that the information I have is final.

️ Reminder: you’ve still got about a week to pick up your paid Hive membership at the 2022 rate of $50 per year. After February 20, the rate will go up to $60 per year.  Thanks to all you amazing paid members. Your support makes it possible for me to continue doing this work!

Basketball scores from Friday are in, and the boys took home a close and hard-fought 64-59 win against Wakefield. Girls fell 61-30.

We also have some State Wrestling qualifiers in our midst: Marcus Tucci and Ahmad Kiswani finished 2nd and 3rd at sectionals. Alex McGillivray finished 5th and will be an alternate!

Finally, Boys Varsity hockey lost one and won one this weekend against Waltham. In the Ed Burns Tournament, the Red Devils fell 1-2 on Saturday but came back for a 4-2 win on Sunday.

✅ Girls’ Gymnastics is on the calendar for today, but I don’t have any other information about time or location. Varsity Girls’ Hockey is happening at Wayland HS at 7:00!

I’ll leave it there for today. Have a great one, Burlington!
