Boys' Track Clinches Middlesex League Title as Baseball and Softball Also Win

Burlington's boys' track and field team tied Melrose 68–68 on Wednesday at McCall Middle School in Winchester, clinching the Middlesex League Freedom Crown with a 4-0-1 league record. It marks the program's 11th league title in 14 years, according to the team's Twitter account, and the program boasts a 66-3-1 record over that time.

It was part of a busy two-day run that also saw boys' baseball and girls' softball pick up wins, boys' lacrosse top Woburn on Tuesday, and losses in tennis and volleyball round out an otherwise strong stretch.

Boys' lacrosse beat Woburn 10–8 at home on Tuesday to improve to 9–5. The girls marked a hard-fought 9-10 loss to the Tanners at Woburn.

The baseball team topped Melrose 8–6 at home on Wednesday, evening the Red Devils' record at 8–8 and bringing the Red Hawks' record to 7–9.

Softball kept up that momentum, rolling past Melrose 14–7 in an away game to improve to 5–10.

Boys' track and field secured the Middlesex League Freedom Crown with the 68–68 draw, finishing dual-meet play unbeaten at 4-0-1, while girls' track fell to Melrose 44–92 and dropped to 2-1 on the season.

Both tennis programs dropped 4–1 decisions to Melrose. Girls' tennis fell to 3–10, with their lone point coming from Shreeya Patel and Emery Shaw at first singles. Boys' tennis dropped to 7–9; junior Nathan Melanson earned the team's point at third singles.

Boys' volleyball was swept 0–3 at Lexington, falling to 8–8. The Minutemen improved to 15–2.
