BHS Athletics Looks Forward to a Strong Winter Season
"The winter is looking great coming off of an amazing fall,” says BHS Athletic Director as new season commences
As a new athletics season kicks off, Shaun Hart, the Athletic Director at Burlington High School, said he hopes to see comebacks and consistency from some of Burlington’s stellar sports teams this winter season. "The winter is looking great coming off of an amazing fall,” he said.
The season officially started on December 1, for sports including boys' and girls' basketball, girls' gymnastics, boys' and girls' hockey, boys' swimming, boys' and girls' indoor track, and wrestling.
Hart said as many of the student-athletes are returners from prior seasons, “the sky is the limit for this year,” and he is excited to see all the talent and skill that they bring to the table. He also added that for teams like girls' indoor track, the staff is going to be completely new, so it will be exciting to see “some of the changes that they’re going to bring to the program.”
“The coaches that we have in place have done a phenomenal job,” said Hart, and he added that this is a contributing factor to the large number of student athletes that return every year at BHS. Hart said around 950 kids go to school in the Burlington area, and every year more than 400 of them play sports, and having so many students involved adds to the excitement and community within the student body.
“We want kids that want to be in Burlington to be here,” said Hart. “That’s our biggest message: Kids that want to be here and want to give their heart and soul to us, we’re going to make you the best person we can make you.”
Hart said it’s hard to pinpoint the strongest team or player at BHS this upcoming winter, as each group has demonstrated talent and growth across its roster throughout the years. If anything this high level of experience can add higher pressure and expectation, but Hart said BHS is up for the challenge.
The passion and spirits are high amongst the student-athletes and community, said Hart. “I think everybody’s ready to see a huge winter season here.”
