Daily Buzz | Ways and Means to Vote on September Town Meeting Financial Articles
Also, a winning day for Burlington sports
I watched the School Committee meeting last night, because I was looking for something specific, but didn’t end up taking notes. Two important things that were discussed:
We are lacking substitutes. When there are not enough substitutes, folks end up covering classes who should really be doing other things, like working 1:1 with students. They did approve an increase in daily pay for substitutes at the meeting last night. If you are looking for an opportunity to be in the classroom, please look into the jobs that are available.
An Owner’s Project Manager has been chosen for the Fox Hill project, and this selection will go to the MSBA (Massachusetts School Building Authority, who subsidizes/funds this project) in October.
Today in Burlington
Today isn’t quite as busy as yesterday, but we still have a fair amount going on.
6:30 PM - Ways and Means School Subcommittee will discuss the warrant articles for next week’s Town Meeting having to do with the schools.
6:30 PM - First Cub Scout Pack 105 Meeting at Fox Hill for K-5 boys and girls interested in scouts
7:00 PM - Historical Commission will talk about a lot of historical-y things, like the burial ground and museum, as well as a third grade field trip and more. One agenda item is “Halloween at West School,” which sounds very interesting.
7:00 PM - Ways and Means will hear about the Community Preservation Act and vote on whether or not to endorse it. They’ll also vote on whether or not to endorse the financial articles coming up for next week’s Town Meeting, which have been discussed in subcommittee in the last week or two. (Join online)
Cross country was postponed yesterday, but Burlington had a mostly winning day in sports. While our golfers lost to Billerica 44-28, volleyball and soccer did a number on their opponents.
Our volleyball teams all shut out Watertown in their away games - Freshman and JV with a score of 2-0 and Varsity 3-0.
In soccer the JV boys won 1-0 and Varsity boys ended in a 0-0 draw against Watertown at home yesterday. JV girls scored five goals against Watertown’s goose egg, while the Varsity team landed a 4-3 win.
Our golfers play in Belmont at 4.
Field Hockey is in Watertown with Varsity playing at 4:15 and JV at 5:15.
Our Freshman Boys are also in Watertown, playing soccer at 4:15.
Have a lovely day, friends!
