Good morning, Burlington!

I spent some time yesterday and summarized the rest of the articles from the Town Meeting Warrant. It’s all interesting, and don’t take the below list to indicate preferential treatment to any single article—but just to give you a flavor of what’s on the menu for Town Meeting Members this coming Monday:

• New emergency response and maintenance vehicles to replace old and failing ones
• A redesign and improvement of the Francis Wyman baseball field
• Sewage maintenance and repair equipment to prevent some really gross scenarios
• Improvements to instructional space at Pine Glen
• Repurposing of some town buildings and demolition of some failing ones
• Security cameras and emergency communication equipment in our schools
• Reshingling the roof of the chapel at Pine Haven Cemetery
• Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training for town staff
• A feasibility study for a renovated or newly built high school

There is much much more in the warrant, and I’ve tried to make the document digestible, creating something that incorporates both the text of the articles and the backup (background material). I hope you’ll take a look, and that this is helpful, and that you’ll reach out to me or to your precinct representatives or the responsible town party with any questions you have.

Our next Town Meeting will be held on May 8, 2023, in the BHS Auditorium. This May gathering is known as the Annual Town Meeting, where your representatives approve (or deny) the budget and most of the capital requests for the upcoming fiscal year. Meetings and Events

• 8:45 AM – Fox Hill 4/5th Grade Spring Concert
• 12:30 PM – Burlington Focus Group at Council on Aging: The Town of Burlington wants to improve how it shares and exchanges information with people in our community. We are especially interested in learning how older residents get information about town businesses, events, and services. Contact Marge Yetman  at (781) 270-1950 to participate!
• 4:00 PM – Baby Yoda Crafts (Library event; register)

• 6:30 PM – Planning Board has their first meeting in a month, and they’ve got a lot to talk about. See below for some of the topics they’ll be discussing. (Town Hall and virtual)

  

• 6:30 PM – Town Clerk – Town Meeting Boot Camp, open to new and existing Town Meeting Members (Town Hall Annex)

• 7:00 PM – The British are Coming Historical Society program: The 10th Regiment Grenadier (three of their elite soldiers) in full British Uniform will honor the Burlington Historical Society and audience with their presence this evening.  European Warfare in America?  Why was the British Army at a disadvantage? (61 Center Street; doors at 6:30. Free and accessible to all!)

Sports and Activities

Lots of good updates from yesterday:

• Boys and girls had strong performances over Stoneham in Track & Field yesterday. Final scores: Boys win 93-42; Girls win 76-55.
• Boys won their tennis match against Central Catholic yesterday with a score of 4-1.
• Boys’ Lacrosse came out over Arlington 9-4, while varsity girls won 20-8. JV girls fell 14-7.
• Finally, boys’ volleyball won their match on Monday 3-0 against Wakefield.

Just a few matchups today:

• Tennis at 4:00 against Woburn; Boys travel and girls host at Rahanis
• Girls host Westford in softball at 4:15; JV plays at Rotary Field and Varsity plays at Marvin Field.
• Boys host Stoneham in baseball at 4:15: JV plays at Center Street Field and Varsity plays at Francis Wyman.
