Daily Buzz | Support BHS Robotics, Enter to Win Some Bling
Plus, coed swim meet at Shawsheen Tech this afternoon
Good Morning, and Happy Friday!
Today, I want to highlight a creative opportunity to support the BHS FIRST Robotics Team, the DevilBotz. This team works together to build a robot to precise specifications that they can take to competitions across the state. They also spread the word about STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in the community, leading fun activities for all ages at town-wide events.
The materials, work, and travel add up, though, and the team relies on fundraising to help pay for their expenses. They’ve been running a GoFundMe for a bit, and they’re more than halfway to their goal! But from now until December 21, they are running a raffle to give their efforts a boost.
From Business Team Co-Leader Inesh Parikh, “We were generously gifted a 14K [peridot and diamond] Halo Ring from Princess Diamonds (in Burlington) valued at $1750, and we want to hold a raffle to raise money.” The raffle will be held on December 21, and tickets are $10 each. You can enter and see the pretty bling here and Venmo the entry fee to @devilbotz. Let’s help this mighty team reach their goals this year!
Today in Burlington
There’s nothing on the official Town calendar until Monday, but don’t forget to reserve your spot for Kadilak Realty Group’s free Santa Party at Grand View Farm on Sunday from 10-1.
4:00 PM - Varsity Coed Swimming meet at Shawsheen Tech
6:00 PM - Varsity Boys’ Basketball at home vs. Tyngsborough
Here’s an especially relevant one…
That’s it for today. See you tomorrow!
The DevilBotz are a great extra curricular activity for Burlington kids, but I have always wondered why they have to fundraise to support their team's participation in tournaments. When you consider how much money goes to sports (how much did the new field cost?), it seems like the school department should budget for this activity so kids and their families don't bear that burden. After all, very few Burlington kids are going to make their livings playing football, but a lot of them will become engineers.... We should be supporting these endeavors. Buzz - would you be willing to ask the Administration or the School Committee about this? It's been happening for years.
