Those “Little Black things” were a staple in gas station operations. They were used to announce the arrival of a car had pulled up to the gas pumps. A bell was located inside the garage and would ring when that little puff of air actuated a bell ringer mechanism. When the bell rang the attendant on duty would go to the car and find out what the customer needed for service. Whether it be gas was needed or the oil level needed to be checked. Those were the days before you,The customer, were needed to fill your own gas at the pumps.I hope the state gets the data before the snow plows destroy those little rubber tubes. One of the side streets to have them is Francis Wyman Rd. They are also on Cambridge St. over the line in Billerica. Happy hoildays fellow “Buzz” readers.
