Daily Buzz | Library Board to Vote On Newest Potential Trustee

And a brief election update

Good Morning!

I hope you’re adjusting to the week just in time for another curveball tomorrow (but at least tomorrow’s Friday, so I can kind of forgive it.

Election Update

Here’s a very quick election update for you.

Ballot questions

The MA ballot questions went as they were trending yesterday, with Questions 1 (fair share), 2 (dental insurance), and 4 (driver’s licenses for undocumented people) passing and 3 (liquor licenses) failing. The margins for 1 and 4 were tight, at about 4 and 8 points respectively.

Burlington’s numbers from yesterday did include mail-in ballots that were received as of November 8, but the rest of the ballots have until the 12th to make it in, and so those are the only ones we’re waiting on to be able to finalize our town’s results. I doubt that number is anywhere near big enough to make a difference in any of our races, but I’ll let you know when the results are official or you can find them here.

The national races are (a) still close to call or (b) going to runoffs, so we don’t even have a projection right now of how the control of Congress will fall.

Meetings and Events

The Housing Authority added a meeting since I last checked the Town Calendar; see below for more info.

  • 9:00 AM – Housing Authority meets to discuss mostly regular financial items, including accepting an ARPA contract which provides more than $100k to the Authority. They are also working on an application for a Resident Services Coordinator position and have to submit it to the Department of Housing and Community Development
  • 7:00 PM – Conservation Commission will discuss two proposed demolition/new construction projects; other items on the agenda have been withdrawn or continued. (Join online)
  • 7:00 PM – Library Trustees will be voting on appointing a new Trustee to fill the vacant seat. This appointment will then go to the Select Board, I assume next Monday, for a vote. They’ll also set a date for a strategic planning session.

Sports and Activities

Our Varsity Boys’ Football team will play Newburyport at home today at 6:00 PM. Hope you can make it out to Varsity Field

That’s it for me. I hope you have a great day, and I’ll catch you tomorrow!
