Good Morning, Burlington!

Before we begin, you need to know that trash collection services are not delayed this week. So be sure to put those bins out Wednesday night or Thursday morning; if you wait ’til Friday, you’ll be overflowing by the time the trucks come by again.

Today we highlight just a snippet of the generosity that has permeated our community this season. This small collection is far from exhaustive; they’re just some stories that have come our way in the last few days that highlight the kind care so many of our residents take to support members of our community.

Kadilak Realty Group & Burlington Womenade Raise $900 at Santa Party

Burlington Womenade is a non-profit organization that helps families in need. They organize or co-organize several events per year and donate the proceeds to support local folks that are going through a hard time.

Kadilak Realty Group had been holding an annual Santa party for years prior to the pandemic; this free party invited members of the community for cookie decorating, photos with Santa, holiday crafts, and more.

This year, the organizations partnered to bring the Santa party back, and turnout was better than ever. At the entrance was a table where guests could enter to win various raffle prizes, and this addition generated over $900 in funds for Burlington Womenade to use to support local families.

Sixth Graders Raise $700 for Abby’s Elves

Sixth graders at Marshall Simonds Middle School worked this year to raise money for Abby’s Elves. This is a non-profit organization created in memory of BHS Spanish teacher Abby Abbott, who passed away in 2021. The initial goal was for each of the three homerooms to raise $100, but the crew rallied and raised more than twice that. In the end, MSMS donated $700 in Abby’s Elves’ name to benefit Christmas in the City, a nonprofit to benefit families experiencing homelessness.

Burlington Father and Son Provide Meals on Christmas Day

Ed Weiner and his son, Jonathan, continued their longstanding tradition of providing meals to those experiencing food insecurity this Christmas Day. They have been volunteering in this capacity for more than 20 years, and what began as a small, informal donation of a few meals has grown to Project Ezra, an event with more than 100 volunteers handing out nearly 1,500 meals. You might recognize Ed’s name, because he also serves as the Chair of Burlington’s Board of Health.
