Daily Buzz | Help Support Affordable Housing in Burlington

Plus, don’t miss this talk at the library
Here’s me, not intimidated or feeling like an imposter at all, bracing against the wind for a selfie with the big and beautiful GBH building.

Good Morning, Neighbors!

This morning we greet many more new subscribers after yesterday’s appearance Boston Public Radio. I’m looking for the recording, but it’s not up yet – keep your ears out if you’d like to hear our conversation about the state of local news in Massachusetts and across the country. And, welcome to you newcomers. I hope you like it here. If you want to support the Buzz’s work, please share our work with other Burlington residents and consider contributing just $60/year to become a Hive member.

Help Support Affordable Housing in Burlington

It’s no secret that the cost of living has skyrocketed in recent years, and according to the Housing Needs Assessment commissioned by Town Meeting and completed in 2022, over a quarter of our households are cost-burdened and there is a need for more variety in the housing options available to would-be residents. If you’re interested in adding your voice and expertise to solving this problem, now is your chance.

The Housing Partnership Committee, now an official committee of the Select Board, is seeking to fill an open seat. The ideal applicant will have experience or interest in housing, real estate law, finance, or other relevant areas. Homeowners and renters are equally encouraged to apply.

From Lyn Mills, Select Board Office Manager,

The Housing Partnership Committee considers housing needs in Burlington with particular attention to housing opportunities that are affordable to residents of all income levels and abilities. The Committee seeks to expand the inventory of decent, safe, affordable housing in Burlington and makes recommendations to the Select Board on steps the Town can take to support the creation of new housing options to address those needs, and to maintain existing affordable housing in Burlington.

If you’re a community member interested in working to support affordable housing in Burlington and think this opportunity would be a good fit, please send a letter of interest, a resume, and a completed application to Lyn Mills.
