Since opening in 2020, The Sculpture Park has been a destination for Burlington residents and their families to enjoy some art out in nature. They’ve also held several events, including pumpkin painting, an ice cream party, and an acrobatics show.
With the purchase of Global Warming via donated funds from Burlington residents and businesses, the permanent installation of Follow your Heart, and the installation of new leased sculptures for 2022-24, this year has been a busy one for the Sculpture Park. And now, it’s time to add one more exciting item to this list.
The Sculpture Park is pleased to announce that Seraph has been donated to Burlington’s Sculpture Park by sculptor, Joseph Ferguson.
Joseph Ferguson, of Weston, MA, is a prolific artist known for his work with stained glass. Mr. Ferguson was born in 1930. He studied at Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland and received the Andrew Carnegie Scholarship to study in the art centers of Europe where he fell in love with the artistry of stained glass in many famous churches. He wanted to bring that medium outside where his works could be appreciated in the sunlight. He moved to Boston in 1952 and eventually founded Ferguson Stained Glass in Weston, MA in 1970. Mr. Ferguson continues to create artwork in this studio today at the age of 92. You can visit www.josephferguson.com to see more of Mr. Ferguson’s work, or you can head out to the Sculpture Park and look for the blue stained glass sculpture right in the center of Burlington.
Seraph was installed in the Sculpture park in summer 2022 and was originally leased for two years with an option to purchase the piece in 2024 at a cost of $80,000. Mr. Ferguson’s generous donation allows the park to keep the sculpture on display permanently. Seraph is made of aluminum, acrylic and glass and stands 12 feet high. The acrylic and glass catch the sunlight and cast shadows on the ground below.
With this donation the Sculpture Park owns a total of five sculptures, including Havoc, the dog posted at the corner of the Town Common, and Love Birds, which was donated by Maureen Wall.

Score Update
I got the locations wrong for one of the hockey games yesterday—sorry about that! Our boys lost 2-1 at the Ice Palace last night against Belmont. Our girls, however, shut out Marblehead 5-0, to set a record for the first 5-0 start in team history!
The Boys’ Basketball team was playing in the Tony Romano Christmas Tournament at Tewksbury HS this week, and won their championship game yesterday 68-61.
Today’s Schedule
Our JV Boys’ Hockey Team is starting up right now in Woburn. We’ve also got Girls’ Basketball today versus Waltham, with JV playing at 10:30 and Varsity at 12:00.
