Good Morning, Burlington, and Happy Friday!

A few new candidates have pulled papers this week. There are now contested races for the Planning Board and the School Committee, while the Library Trustees only have two candidates for three seats. Again, Town Meeting members will have a chance to sign up to re-run at Town Meeting on Monday, and so those seats will likely fill up after that.

Please don’t forget to pull your papers by February 8 and return them by February 11 if you are planning to run for any seat in Town Government. If you want to know why you should run or anything else about local government, let me know and I’ll put you in touch with the right person.

I made some updates to the Town Meeting Warrant Article Summaries this morning, and will flesh out the rest of the information later today.

Meetings and Events

No official meetings and events are on the calendar. Of course, there is a 2-hour school delay this morning and there are also some library events you can take advantage of.

Sports and Activities

The Red Devils Boys’ Gymnastics team won last night, winning out over Newton, Braintree, and Lowell with a score of 134.

Assuming nothing is canceled for weather, here’s what’s on tap for Burlington sports today:

Girls have their gymnastics meet tonight at 7:15 in Melrose.

Basketball takes the day today, with JV and Varsity playing in Wakefield and Freshmen playing here in Burlington. Here’s the schedule:

  • 4:00 PM – Freshman Boys at MSMS
  • 4:00 PM – Freshman Girls at BHS
  • 4:00 PM – JV Girls at Galvin MS
  • 5:30 PM – JV Boys at Galvin MS
  • 5:30 PM – Varsity Girls at WHS
  • 7:00 PM – Varsity Boys at WHS
