Daily Buzz | A Tribute to a Friend

Help a grieving family carry on their loved one’s legacy

Before we get started today, I want to share some sad news about a good friend of mine and a beloved community organizer here in Burlington. Leo Abramov, co-founder of Pride and friend & advocate to oh, so many, died on March 9 after a courageous battle with stomach cancer. He was only 36 years old.

To say Leo will be missed is an understatement, but his family and friends are doing everything we can to preserve his legacy of supportive joy. To help this cause (and to help with medical bills and final expenses), you can donate to the GoFundMe that has been established in Leo’s name. Any support is appreciated.

Leo often said to me that if his story helped only one person, he would be happy to share it. But his story and his bravery helped many more than one. Read more about Leo’s life and legacy here.

As a follow-on to my story about wrestling yesterday, I wanted to share the league results.

Middlesex Freedom League Champs: Melrose
Middlesex Liberty League Champs: Arlington
MVP: Braden Marceau, Melrose
Coach of the Year: Larry Tremblay, Melrose
Rookie of the Year: Johnny Moraes, Melrose, Grade 9, 126lbs

Burlington’s Molly Moroney was named an All-Star, and Ahmad Kiswani was named to the all-conference team, an honor that is bestowed upon only one wrestler per weight class!

Congrats again to these hard-working athletes and their coaching and support staff on a solid season.

Take care, Burlington. I’ll see you tomorrow.
