Burlington Baseball has a lot to celebrate this summer.

Over the last week, five teams have been representing Burlington Baseball in district tournaments for ages 8-12 across the state, with hopes of advancing to the state tournament.

8U Advances to State Championship

The 8U team lost their first round game to tournament host Revere by a score of 10-5. Fortunately it’s a double elimination tournament and Burlington kept their season alive with a 7-3 win, eliminating Arlington in the process. Their next game was a rematch against Revere in which Burlington came out swinging and knocked Revere out of the tournament with a 10-4 win. Up next was a matchup with neighboring rival, Winchester. Burlington fell behind 4-0 early, but battled back quickly to make it 4-3. Winchester added a few more runs to take a 6-3 lead before Burlington came back again to pull off a 7-6 victory. With that win, Burlington advanced to the district championship game, but more importantly they secured their spot in the state tournament as the District 1 representative. Burlington faced a tough task of playing their 4th game in as many nights, going up against a strong well-rested team from Marblehead. They lost the final game 12-1, but represented the town with pride and accomplished their goal of qualifying for the state tournament. They’ll have time to recover before their next game as the tournament begins on July 9th in Freetown/Lakeville, which boasts a mini Fenway Park!

9U and 10 U Battle Hard but Won’t be Moving On

The 9U team was in action in Arlington, where they also played the host team in their opening game, losing by a score of 6-0. In the second round they faced a tough team from Medford. Burlington had a lead late in the game, but they were unable to hold on and were eliminated from the tournament with the 7-5 loss.

The 10U also drew a first round game against the host city, Medford. They had a strong first game and advanced with an 8-3 victory. Round two they faced a strong opponent in Arlington and lost a tough game 11-1. They moved over to the loser’s bracket where they kept their season tournament hopes alive by defeating Concord-Carlisle 8-4. A rematch with Medford was the end of the road for the 10s as they dropped the contest 10-6. Medford went on to advance to the Finals where they will play Arlington for the championship.

11U Are District Champs!

The 11U team began their tournament in Belmont with a 5-3 Win over Arlington. They advanced to play Winchester, who had a 1st round bye, and eked out a 4-3 victory. Their semi-final matchup was a 4-0 shutout win over a strong team from Marblehead that had won its previous game 10-0. That win secured the 11s a spot in the state tournament, but they weren’t done! They went on to defeat Marblehead again in the finals 6-2 to be crowned district champions! They will represent the town with pride at the state tournament to be hosted in Newburyport beginning July 1st.

12U has strong run in Districts, Burlington to host State tournament

The 12U team opened their tournament with a 6-0 loss to Winchester. They quickly went to work in the loser’s bracket with strong wins over Concord-Carlisle (6-1) and Belmont (9-1). Unfortunately it’s a tough path out of the loser’s bracket and they lost their next game against Marblehead 4-3. Although Burlington was eliminated, they will have an automatic bid into the state tournament as the Burlington Baseball and Softball Association will be hosting the 12U Cal Ripken baseball tournament from July 1-10at Simonds Park.

Originally scheduled elsewhere, a sudden change gave Burlington the opportunity to host. There has been a lot of work to date by the tournament committee headed by volunteers to get things ready including the re-opening of the snack shack and the welcome addition of the What the Fork food truck. Burlington Famous Pizza will be our pizza vendor!

The Burlington Recreation Department has been making improvements to the field, which will serve the tournament well and contribute to the long term well-being of the fields at Simonds Park.

In addition to host Burlington, other teams in the tournament include Bedford, Marblehead, Winchester, Old Rochester, Weymouth, Somerset, and Dedham.

The 12U tournament is a double elimination bracket. Burlington's first game will be Saturday July 2nd at 12:30pm at Lower Simonds vs Somerset. If they win they'd play Sunday at 10:30am, if they lose they'd play Sunday at 1pm. See the full bracket below.
