Daily Buzz | Your Assignment, Should You Choose to Accept It
How can you help turn out the vote?

Hey, friends.
Would you believe there are still people in Burlington who don’t know about Burlington Buzz? Shocking, right? That wouldn’t bother me, if not for the fact that the Buzz is one of the very loud sources of information about local events, which *ahem* include a certain election coming up in 10 days, on April 9, 2022!
I’ve been working on my own self-assigned local elections beat for the last 14 months or so, and one of my express goals has been to increase awareness and involvement in local elections. That’s why I’m so proud of the Buzz and its readership (many hundreds!) and so eager to add more readers each day.
In advance of the election, on slow news days, I’m going to give you some assignments (once a teacher, always a teacher ) to help increase engagement in the election and, hopefully by extension, the community as a whole. Step 1 will always be the same.
So, today’s homework:
Share The Buzz with everyone you know in Burlington! We’ve got buttons and links and magnets and QR codes and even a big vinyl sign! But it’s unlikely people will see any of these before the election, unless you awesome people help. So - hit the forward button, or text the QR code (Sure, I’ll attach it below, why not!), or grab some flyers from me, or whatever it is you can do to spread the word.
While you’re at it, make sure everyone you know who’s over 18 and lives in Burlington knows about the election. Again, it’s on April 9, from 8 AM to 8 PM at Burlington High School. Also, you can watch this short 1-minute BNEWS story about the new voting equipment designed to streamline check-in at the polls. Pretty cool stuff!
That’s it for today. Your friends and loved ones might have further questions, in which case you can feel very confident referring them right back to Point #1, because just about every question can be answered by thumbing through the site at burlington.buzz.
Alright, I’m kicking the soapbox back under the bed for now.
Last night there were a few conflicting meetings, and I wasn’t able to attend any of them. If you want to throw me a couple notes about one of them, I’d be happy to post on your behalf!
Just a couple items on the agenda for today:
- 1:00 PM - Machine Test for the town election.
- 7:00 PM - Ways & Means meets to discuss the Public Safety budget presented in subcommittee this week, along with MIS, Assessors, and Recreation Maintenance and Director Budgets. (Join via Webex)
I’ll see you tomorrow! Only 10 more days until the election!
Nicci
P.S. Here’s that QR Code. It’ll take people right to the Burlington Buzz site. All they have to do is scan it with their smartphone camera.
