Results Still Shaking Out for Burlington Town Election
Some open seats remain; others were filled by write-in candidates.
It's been nearly two weeks since Burlington's 2026 Town Election, and some results still aren't certain.
While the town-wide races were settled close to midnight on Election Night, the Town Meeting seats have proven more complicated to fill.
Ahead of the election, there were open seats in Precincts 2 (3-year and 1-year seats) and 3 (3-year and 2-year seats). It was anticipated that write-in candidates would be elected to these seats, but a wrench was thrown into the works when the same write-in candidate won both open seats in Precinct 2 AND Precinct 7.
In Precinct 2, Rene Andronica received 8 of the 28 write-in votes for the 3-year seat and 5 of the 15 total write-in for the 1-year seat, representing the most for each seat. Andronica accepted the 3-year seat and declined the 1-year seat; that one-year seat is now considered a "failure to elect." The seat will be filled on May 11 prior to Town Meeting by the other Town Meeting Members from Precinct 2.

Precinct 7's race had even more moving parts. The winner of the 3-year write-in seat, Neal Lespasio, who gathered four of the 14 total write-in votes, also won the 1-year seat for which he was officially on the ballot. He declined the one-year seat, leaving the other candidate, Jami Weber. Weber, however, won the two-year write-in seat when Daniel Karavakis declined the seat.
This cascade leaves a one-year seat up for grabs in Precinct 7, which will be filled by Town Meeting Members ahead of Town Meeting, just as the one-year Precinct 2 seat will be.
Interested candidates should contact the Town Clerk at 781-270-1660, as well as the Town Meeting Members in the appropriate precinct, to introduce themselves and express their intentions. Elected Town Meeting Members will vote to appoint a candidate to fill each one-year seat until the 2027 election; typically this happens at a special precinct meeting occurring just before Town Meeting. This May, Town Meeting will begin at 7:00 PM on May 11.
