Tell voters a little about your background.
I have been a respiratory therapist for 35+ years and have worked in the medical device development 25+ years. I earned my MBA from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have managed respiratory consumables, mechanical ventilation products, and have two US patents in mechanical ventilation. I am now semi-retired and provide consulting services in Respiratory Care and respiratory medical devices. I am also active within the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) as well as the Massachusetts Society for Respiratory Care (MSRC) and currently serve in the capacity of president elect. I am also a member of the Arborwood Board of Trustees.
Why do you want to serve on Town Meeting, or why are you seeking re-election?
To me, it is very important to give back to the community in which I live. I do my best to be an active participant within my community. By serving on the Burlington Town Meeting, I will not just be participating in the vibrance of the Town of Burlington Community.
What do you see as your charge as a Town Meeting Member in your precinct?
Representing the interests of the 2nd Precinct in our Town Meetings as well as being an information conduit back to my neighbors. The Town Meeting sees a great deal of information on Burlington projects and initiatives, and I see it as very important to not just represent, but to inform my 2nd precinct neighbors as well as carry their thoughts and preferences to the Town Meeting.
What do you see as the three biggest issues facing Burlington right now and how should Town Meeting address them?
- Clean and dependable water supply.
- Maintenance of key Town of Burlington facilities and infrastructure.
- Fiscal responsibility in the planning and management of ongoing and future town construction initiatives.
The high school debt exclusion vote failed last fall. What do you think happens next and what role should Town Meeting play?
Re-evaluate the project and modify it so as to fit within our current financial resources and constraints. Doing so in a manner that does not generate (or minimizes) any additional taxes on the community.
Burlington has significant capital needs — including a new high school — at a time when many residents are feeling the pressure of rising costs. How will you weigh those competing realities when voting on major expenditures?
First, by being an active participant in the Town Meeting to discuss the project and details with other members of the Town Meeting as well as members of the 2nd Precinct. Second, by reading and understanding the information that is provided and making sure that I understand the needs, variables and costs associated with projects that are presented to the Town Meeting.
How will you solicit input from your constituents?
I will always listen to what neighbors, members of the Town Meeting and other members of the community to understand their thought and preferences on keeping the Town of Burlington a great place to live. With that in mind, I intend to solicit the thoughts and opinions of my neighbors and community as a whole to ensure that I'm representing them properly in the Town Meeting.
