A Summer Magazine Made Right Here in Burlington
The summer edition of Buzz Magazine is almost in your mailbox — and this one felt different to make.
Every quarter, Burlington Buzz puts together a print magazine for Burlington — free, delivered to more than 10,000 households, and packed with the kind of local content you won't find anywhere else. This summer's edition is 40 pages, and we're genuinely proud of every one of them.
What made this cycle different: I designed the whole thing myself.
In past editions, I've leaned heavily on outside help for layout. This time, working from templates developed with Samantha Butler, who designed the Spring magazine, I wrote each piece and then built the pages around it — story by story, spread by spread. It was one of the most satisfying creative experiences I've had with Burlington Buzz. Seeing a feature about Burlington's new fire chief or a photo spread of student artwork come together on the page, exactly the way I imagined it — that doesn't get old.
We're also running ahead of schedule. The magazine goes to 10,345 Burlington households, and our goal was delivery by June 15. At this pace, it'll likely arrive early.
As for what's inside: this edition has something for everyone. If you love Burlington history, there's a piece on Burlington's role in the American Revolution — timed to the country's 250th anniversary — written by the Burlington Historical Commission. And if you've ever wondered what's actually happening with all the construction around town, we've got a full infrastructure update covering everything from the Town Common to Fox Hill Elementary to the MWRA water connection project.
Those are just two of more than a dozen features. There's also a food tour of Burlington restaurants, a birds of New England guide by Burlington's Phyllis Neufeld, Pride coverage, student art, a summer events calendar, and more.
