Weekly Buzz | Register to Vote!

Good morning! Hope you enjoyed “sleeping in” this morning.

There is a ton of awesome stuff going on at the library this week, including a Teen Smash Bros tournament tonight, a financial workshop on Tuesday, toddler and preschool storytime, a seed starting workshop, and much more. Some of these events require prior registration, so be sure to check the calendar and register for the event that’s right for you or your family!

Here’s what else is ahead this week in Burlington:

Monday, March 14

  • Deadline for vendor applications for the Health Fair.
  • 10:00 AM - Ways & Means Subcommittee meets to review the Library and Town Facilities budget.
  • 2:00 PM - Ways & Means DPW/Recreation Subcommittee will review the budgets for the Recreation Department and Recreation Maintenance.
  • 6:00 PM - Recreation Commission meets for their regular meeting, which involves hearing reports from the different departments.
  • 6:00 PM - Select Board meets. There are some approvals on the agenda, but the main item is a presentation by Town Counsel on some legal changes involving the Multi-Family Zoning Requirement for MBTA Communities which was just passed by the state and will require action on the town’s part. I’m thinking it would be good for residents to be in attendance at this meeting, which will take place in hybrid format.
  • 7:00 PM - Information Systems Security Advisory Committee meets to discuss the state of information security in Burlington, including a software acquisition and our cybersecurity policy.

Tuesday, March 15

  • Board of Health Candidate Profiles drop in the Elections section (don’t worry, I’ll link them here, too, and I’ll try and remember to uncheck the “email everyone” box so you don’t get a thousand emails).
  • 9:30 AM - Ways & Means Board of Health Subcommittee meets to review the BoH budget, as well as the accommodated accounts for mosquito control and hazardous waste.
  • 10:30 AM - Ways & Means Planning Board Subcommittee meets about the budget for the Planning Department.
  • 6:30 PM - General Bylaw Review Committee meets to review some proposals and discuss appointing an additional member, in addition to other items.
  • 7:00 PM - Land Use Committee has invited the proponents of two proposed warrant articles to present on their projects - this is the proposal for new buildings on Network drive where the parking lots currently sit and for the 135 Cambridge Street area where Roger’s Piano is. They’ll also be discussing some organizational items and the Mall Road Mass development Initiative & the Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness project (about which I’m immensely curious).
  • 7:00 PM - School Committee meets about the budget for next year.
  • 7:30 PM - Board of Appeals meeting about a request by Joss & Main (75 Middlesex Turnpike) for permission to install two signs.

Wednesday, March 16

  • 4:00 PM - Board of Assessors meets for some things I would try to summarize, but I don’t have enough context to understand them! After I do my profile on BoA, I’ll do a better job publicizing their responsibilities.
  • 7:00 PM - Capital Budget meets to discuss their endorsement guide and see a presentation on the Community Preservation Act.
  • 7:00 PM - Historical Commission meets to talk about various areas of interest including the 250th anniversary celebration.
  • 7:00 PM - Ways & Means meets to review the budgets discussed by the various subcommittees this week.

Thursday, March 17

  • 6:00 PM - Ways & Means School Subcommittee meets to review the school budget discussed by the School Committee on Tuesday.
  • 7:00 PM - Planning Board Meets (agenda to come)

Friday, March 18

  • DEADLINE TO REGISTER TO VOTE. Why now just do it now and get it out of the way?

Remember, none of these are set in stone until 48 hours before meeting time. Meetings are added and agendas are updated throughout the week, so keep an eye out for the Daily Buzz each morning the latest info relating to that day.

That’s it for now. I hope you have a peaceful weekend,

Nicci
